Self-mastery begins by slowing down your over-stressed mind and
learning how to separate your sense of self from your thoughts. You
are not your thoughts! You see, thoughts are “things”.
They are electromagnetic waves of energy and information that is processed by your brain, which acts as a receiver, and your nervous system. Thoughts are more complex than simply calling them “brain waves”, but they are a part of your bio-magnetic field as a living being, so they are energetic in nature. The way that your brain interprets this information will be based on your unique perceptual system involving emotion, long-term memory and pre-conditioned beliefs. I believe that our main purpose in this lifetime is to understand the difference between identifying your sense of self with thought and the truth about your Nature as a Spiritual Being.
We are to experience life as the human experience, however, the vast majority of us become trapped in our minds with all of the conditioned thoughts of lack, limitation and fear, most of which we start to identify with as facets of our very “self”.
The ego is what we think about ourselves. Our identification with our thoughts is so pronounced that there is even something called “egoic marketing” in which your sense of inadequacy or insecurity is appealed to and is subliminally snagged by people marketing their products to you as a consumer.
What you think is mental and what you are is at the essence level of being, the Observer of the thought; they are two different things. You are not the thinker that thinks the thought; you are the Observer of the thought!
Freeing your spirit, your essence or your BEING from the prison of
limited thoughts, will allow you to more freely find your experiential
purpose, or what you are to “do” in your life. If you can BE, you will unfold into what to DO. We have it backwards.
We think that what we DO is who we ARE. This is a bottomless pit as
the external world of appearances and experience is constantly
changing. You cannot have inner peace and stability if you base your
value on the outer world.
Once you can come from a place of inner self-esteem and confidence based on your True spiritual nature, you can evolve to detach from the fear messages of the world and those around you so that you can listen to your inner guidance, your heart that is calling you to your greater destiny and purpose.
If you believe who you are is what you think, you will easily be dragged back into past thoughts of regret, unforgiveness and what others said about you. Or, you may worry about the uncertainty of the future, or think that the future is the only way to happiness. But what about NOW? Instead of letting your mind, your thoughts define you, why not turn to the Truth that makes you free? As Ralph Waldo Emerson said,
"What lies behind us, and what before us, are tiny matters compared to what lies within us"
Now more than ever it is imperative that you heal your thoughts and emotions and begin to consciously co-create the life that you were meant to live. This is where self-mastery can take you. Mastery over the fear-based egoic thought construct of “self” will allow you to live an authentic, on purpose life.
You are a spiritual being having a human experience. Your Being or essence does not change with thought. As you learn how you think and feel creates your experience, you can begin to consciously create your experience of life. As you learn to go within, your life can be transformed to express the life and purpose that brings forth your unique gifts and talents. Now is the time!

You're so right. We are not what we do or think. What we are is deeper, more. That's why self-esteem can't grow by simple exterior actions.
